Frutigen is a municipality and the capital of the administrative district Frutigen-Niedersimmental of the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

The municipality is located in the Kandertal and Engstligental and extends from the Niesen chain to the Gehrihorn mountains.
History
A Lappenaxt from the Bronze Age is the first track of residents in Frutigen. Coins and an iron plowshare occupy a Roman colonization of the Kander Valley. In the 8th Century was built the first church in Frutigen, the present church was rebuilt after a fire in 1727. 1228 is the first documentary mention of Frutigen.
