Description
The reformed church from Hindelbank was the subject of some of my photos.
Hindelbank is located at 519 m above sea level. M., 6 km west of Burgdorf and 12 km northeast of the capital of the canton of Bern (straight line). The long-drawn street village is located in a gently undulating landscape on the southern edge of the flood plain of the river Emme, at the foot of Molasse higher Swiss plateau.
Hindelbank is first mentioned in 1275 as Hundelwanc. The earliest human traces are some possibly neolithic items have been discovered in the village. The remains of a Roman era settlement were discovered at Lindachfeld. The village formed the center of a small lower court. Beginning in 1347 the village and its court passed through the hands of a number of local nobles as it was sold, divided and inherited repeatedly.
The village church was first mentioned in 1275. The old church was replaced with a new building in 1514-18. The church tower was built almost a century and a half later in 1666-68. After a fire in the house of God 1911-12 by Karl Indermhle it was extensively rebuilt.
Two monumental tombs were carved in the church by Johann August Nahl.(the Elder), created grave plate for Mary Magdalene Langhans. The grave plate counted in the 18 Century the most admired works of art in Europe. They thus attracted many educational travelers to travel to Hindelbank, among others, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
